After spending the major part of the last 6 months as a Pretoria resident, I decided (with some “mild” Bosnian style encouragement from my biggest/only fan: my mother), it was time to get writing again and share some of my experiences with the world (or at least my mother and the few loyal friends who read this- appreciate the support guys).

You may/may not already know, but mid last year my company was commissioned to undergo a project that would involve me spending the larger part of 6 months in South Africa. It was extremely unexpected and random; not a destination I had thought a lot about. I have to admit I was extremely ignorant about the country and culture and at the time the project was commissioned I didn’t have much time to read up and prepare. I associated this place with safari, of course Mandela and this funny little animal called Springbok of which I’d once had a delicious steak in Camden Town. Even when we made our way on our first trip to Pretoria I had no idea what I was letting myself in to.

But now on my last trip with one week left and potentially no return in the near future I have to say I feel a little sad about the end of my journey. It is a weird, weird place with a lot of things one needs to “adjust” to, but its an incredible country, with a kaleidoscope of beautiful people and the whole experience for me has been one I have learnt a lot from and will hopefully share with you over the next few blogs.
