And finally, the blog that my mother has so desperately been waiting for…and I have to say I’m pretty excited about it myself. National Geographic if you’re reading this and like any of my photos, I’m totally available.
Kyoto is where you go if you’re looking for traditional Japanese culture- here they have bucket loads of it. Kyoto was the imperial capital between 794 and 1868 and nowadays you can still visit the masses of temples and shrines located there.
It’s a world away from the neon lights of Tokyo and the tranquility is preserved. It’s still an important city so you have the large buildings and even the odd McDonalds but the the signs here are restricted and a lot less epileptic-shock-inducing than in central Tokyo.
We headed straight to the Higashiyama area and southeastern Kyoto, where the old town is incredibly beautiful and scattered with temples which now form part of Unesco heritage. The wonderful weather and budding cherry blossom made it even more spectacular and the beautiful girls in Kimonos were out in their masses. What an incredible day- words can’t describe it.
Seriously though National Geographic, whenever you’re ready…
