Obviously the cuisine of Brazil is massively varied, due to both the different culinary influences (mainly European and African) and also the vast variety of ingredients on offer. Food also varies greatly by region and considering the size of the country (mahoosive) you can imagine it would require a million blogs to cover everything. So I have picked the two most interesting dishes to write about.

The churrascaria (Brazilian barbeque) is probably the most famous food of Brazil, but for me it is most interesting if you go to a Rodizio. When you go to the Rodizio half the fun is in the experience. A Rodizio is what they call any all you eat restaurant in Brazil, and while there are vegetarian ones as well, the most common style is with meat.

The general concept is that when you enter the restaurant, you get a little card with two sides- one side red and the other side green. The waiters come around with knives and different skewers of barbeque meat and if your card is green they just keep bringing you meat until you are full (if you are a normal human being) or until you explode/pass out (if you are a greedy Serb). You see the green is supposed to mean “I’m still hungry keep it coming” and the red “I’m full”, but in our eyes green just meant “I’m full but I can’t stop coz it’s sooo good, and red was just a lost cause completely; a symbol of defeat and shame, which never goes down well with us stubborn and proud Serbs.

So we ate our socks off and the only time we had a welcome break from getting meat thrown at us was during particularly exciting moments of the football match being shown on tv, which made all the members of staff forget where they were and drop everything to watch the match. Needless to say it was delicious, but we ate so much that Ceca and I needed over a week to recover and we were still feeling the wrath of the Rodizio well into our Iguaçu adventure. Momma, however, who managed to pace herself with the help of her magical Caipirinhas, felt fine. Not sure whether the moral of this story is one for the kids?…
