Our flight back to Buenos Aires was supposed to be a quick and painless one, with our planned arrival on the day before Monika’s birthday. Unfortunately, not many things in South America are quick and painless. Because Argentina is humungous and the flight is over three hours long, we had a connecting flight in Trelew, an uneventful town in the middle of Argentina where we were supposed to wait 45 minutes and not even leave the plane.

As soon as we landed, we were informed that one of the crew was taken urgently to hospital and that 45 minutes would become two hours, which then became six hours, which then became eight hours…..and eventually at around 11pm we were told that we would have the pleasure of spending the night in Trelew and catching a new flight the next day at 8am. Obviously we were all pissed off and Monika played the birthday card which got us an ugrade to first class on the flight the next day. This basically meant we got a sandwhich while the plebs/non bithday people got cookies- but we were excited all the same.

Despite our outrage and complaining, we did get a free lunch, dinner and breakfast, plus we stayed in an actual hotel with a hair dryer and a nice bed which turned out to be the poshest place we stayed in in our whole journey so far. However, we were shattered the next day, and arriving in Buenos’ 400°C with God knows how much humidity tipped us over the edge so we spent most of the day resting and in the evening went for Armenian food to celebrate Monika’s birthday.
