Speaking to more and more Argentinians I soon realised there are two things even more important to boys than flirting with women- meat and football. We are yet to meet a boy who is not crazy about football and I’ve already had some heated discussions about which team is the best in the country/continent. Fernando claims that most young boys in his area spent the majority if their childhood on the streets playing with their friends. I thought it only right to pay a visit to the Boca Juniors stadium- one of Maradona’s first clubs. Incidentally the area around the stadium is a really pretty part of the city.
As far as meat is concerned I thought it was high time I took some photos instead of just talking about it and eating it. Argentinians love their barbecues so much that there is really not much that can stop them from eating it as often as possible. As one writer describes it, heaving half a butcher’s shop onto the grill is a weekend ritual in Argentina. I asked the head chef at our barbeque (a gathering of Fernando’s friends and colleagues) how often he has barbecues and he said at least once a week without fail even during the winter time. Apparently it doesn’t matter if it’s raining or super cold, the meat must go on!
